Get To Know Team TM: Alice
Q. Tell us about your career background?
After finishing school in Brisbane, I packed my bags and made the move to Sydney where I completed a Diploma of Musical Theatre which at the time I believed was my dream! After my graduation I took on a casual sales assistant role in retail to help pay the bills while I was auditioning for creative roles. Little did I know what was around the corner … within 6 months I was promoted to an Assistant Store Manager role in the Flagship location, then Store Manager and not long after that, Area Manager.
I was hooked!
Developing people, kicking goals and always saying YES has helped me get to where I am now, and I wouldn’t change a thing. My career has now taken me to Melbourne, seen me achieve over 10 years within retail and now most excitingly, recruitment!
Q. What is your most valued career achievement?
A standout moment in my career with Hype DC was winning Area Manager of the year at our national conference, with the highest growth to both target and comp. Every Store Manager, Senior leader, Brand partner and CEO was in the room. Not only that, but I was also honoured to be asked to MC the event. It was a huge celebration and one that I will always feel very proud of.
Q. What is your go to work playlist to get you through the day?
Don’t laugh, white noise! I can be easily distracted by sounds around me and I find if I ever need to get in the zone, a good set of noise cancelling headphones and white noise blasting in my ears does the trick. I am the most productive.
Q. What about you makes you great at your job?
My love of people and connection! I was definitely the kid in school that had ‘she has so much potential. If only she would stop talking’ on all my report cards. Well, I guess that skill has come in handy now.
I also love to help people. In all of my roles that I have worked in, networking has been such an important part of my role. I love to support people’s growth in anyway that I can.
I also like to consider myself a solutions-based person. There is always a solution, and nothing is a loss. Only a win or a lesson. I get my eternal optimism from my Mum. She can truly find beauty in everything. Big or small.
Q. What is your idea of success?
To never lose hunger for growth and never stop being curious.
Q. Tell us 3 things that are most important to you!
- Surrounding myself with the people I love. My friends and family who I adore.
- My health. Looking after myself so I can be the best version of me.
- Having purpose. Without purpose, what do we have?
Q. What brands are you loving right now?
Henne and Nakedvice. Great staple wardrobe pieces that will last!
Q. Describe your perfect day.
An early (reasonable) wake up, coffee in bed, workout, lunch and a stroll on High Street which can be very dangerous for my wallet. Dinner at home, maybe a movie and a good night’s rest.
Q. If you could have anyone in the world, be your dinner guest, who would it be?
Amy Poehler – I am loving her ‘Good Hang’ podcast at the moment and think she would be so easy to talk to! Super down to earth and no doubt a great laugh.
Q. Tell us something we would never guess about you
Fun fact, I spent most of my childhood in Hong Kong.
Q. Give us a life hack!
As someone who used to be a professional procrastinator when it came to completing tasks that scared me, just do it! Run through that fear. Trust me, it’s way more stressful when you have a pile of big rocks you need to address.
