Celebrating 5 years of The Talent Mill, with words from our founder, Ange.

Talk us through the beginnings of TTM?

I started my business 5 years ago after a leaving a role after a short stint – one that I knew wasn’t aligned for me. I come from a family of entrepreneurs, but I resisted starting my business for a long time (and the not-so-subtle hints from all my family, that I was destined to be an entrepreneur). I had felt that itch to learn and grow and in my last few roles, while I had loved them and the teams –  they just weren’t providing me with that stretch that I was after. I thought to start a business you needed a tonne of savings, a very solid plan and a whole lot of courage.

With a gifted laptop from my mum - I decided to just give it a go, figuring if it all went pear shaped, I could always get a job again! My drivers and values back then were centred around freedom, recruiting with integrity, wanting to live a life on my own terms, and to have amazing relationships with my clients and candidates. I have never been shy of hard work – and yep, I will tell you in the last five years there has been a LOT of that (also tears, fear, imposter syndrome – you name it I had a mortgage on it!) but also, its been the most amazing experience, and I am so proud of where the Talent Mill stands today.

How has TTM grown?

In the first two years I really did not have any ambitions to grow the team, I was very content  being a solo-preneur. Thankfully I kept it lean because we all know what came in 2020. So, you can imagine my surprise that five years later TTM is now a team of 5 plus some amazing support from our partners. We have evolved, elevated and honoured our drivers and values. Everything in this business is a representation of me and I take that responsibility very seriously. Nothing is as important as reputation (if you have worked with me before I have probably said that one thousand times) and I try to show up every day honouring that intention.

What do you love about what you have created at TTM?

After 5 years the thrill hasn’t gone away, I love helping businesses get clearer on their recruitment strategies, helping them to better articulate what success looks like in their business and create a shit hot strategy to match it. I love working with candidates who are just  unsure of how amazing they really are and helping them see with a couple of little tweaks on their searches that they will nail the job of their dreams.

I love providing training to my amazing team, to help them become genuine experts in their field, and to feel proud of their work. Because I am SO proud to be a Recruiter – I LOVE my job. And I LOVE challenging the status quo of terrible recruitment, and providing genuine support to anyone who has chosen to work with us.

In the last five years we have:

Placed over 400 candidates into roles.

Met with more than 3000 candidates globally.

And supported over 70 companies with their recruitment goals.

Increased to a team of 5 amazingly talented women who love what they do.

Smashed revenue goal after revenue goal – I put this one last – this is a really lovely aftereffect, but this is NOT our why.

If you are reading this now – thank you. Thank you for working with me, for supporting me, for recommending me and my team. Its an honour and we are so excited for the next five years with you!
