What Would A World Without Fashion Look Like.
I can’t imagine a world without fashion - can you?
What if we all wore the exact same outfit, everyday?! These days, in a world where humans embrace individuality and our own uniqueness, how very different would our world would be.
For me fashion lights me up. I love the way it makes me feel, different clothes, different shoes, accessories for different moods, different seasons, different emotions, different weather, different stages of the day from sunrise to sunset, to night-time snoozes, to exercising in the morning, to events of all types.
Fashion can give you confidence to smash out your day, brighten your mood, lift you up, transform your day, express yourself to the world.
From buttery soft Activewear and Shapewear in seasonal tones to get you moving in the morning, to a well-tailored black, neutral toned or crisp white Blazer to blitz your interview or client meeting, to an Australian or Luxury Designer dress for that effortless elegant after work date night, girls night out, or special event in the calendar, beautiful accessories for the perfect gift, to mark an occasion or to elevate your look– the fashion industry has your back.
Different fabrics, textures, materials, looks and feels for the tactile ones. It’s a sensory experience for some, a sense of identity and expression of self for others, a way of life for those of us who live, breathe and are privileged enough to do what they love and have a career in the fashion industry.
So cliché I know but I love the movie Devil Wears Prada I’ve seen it more times that I should admit… it’s the famous scene for me where iconic actress Meryl Streep plays Editor- In -Chief Miranda Priestly dresses down her new Assistant in training, Anne Hathaway’s character Andrea Sachs, who refers to her sweater simply as ‘blue’ with Meryl responding with that no, that sweater is “not just blue, it’s not turquoise, it’s not lapis, it’s actually cerulean”.
In my view, this scene put colour on the map with a new understanding. She then dives into a history of the colour cerulean and its relevance and relationship to the runway. And that even though Andrea may not think of the blue plain sweater as fashion but in fact it is and too has its own story. Fashion affects all of us in some way whether you know it or not.
According to AI (disclaimer figures may not be 100% correct) but to give you an estimation the global fashion industry employs an estimated 430 million people with a large portion of this working the retail sector, other areas include design, production, development, marketing (brand, comms, ecomm, digital, social, PR), buying, planning, and operations. This industry is not only a highly engaged, artistic and purposeful industry but is a serious contributor to economic sectors with the global fashion market valued around $1.8 trillion. The Australian fashion and textile industry directly employees approximately close to 500,000 people with more than 70% women.
Whether it is Design, Production, Marketing, Planning, Buying, Retail Leadership and Retail Sales, we see you- all of the hardworking talent who have passion in abundance and that pour their blood, sweat and tears, working tirelessly to produce stunning products for all of us season after season –in my view a significant part of our life that which largely contributes making our world go around.
I found my passion after more than 10 years in recruiting – recruiting in the fashion industry for a countless number of fashion brands that I love and adore. Matching and connecting the right talent to the right brand in the right position – playing our part in assisting to build, grow and provide support to fashion businesses. It’s the perfect role for me. I am so privileged and truly grateful from the bottom of my heart that I have such a love what I do every day and for the fashion industry. And I think that’s perhaps a part what makes our TTM team so special – we all feel the same love and care for the fashion industry. I really can’t and don’t want to imagine a world without fashion. It certainly wouldn’t be as colourful, fun, creative and interesting.
I urge you to more than ever right now, back your favourite fashion brands, not just purchase but cherish them – like their Instagram posts, give five star reviews, give your love and shout outs generously when you love what you’re wearing and recognise that they fit you perfectly and make you feel good. I wholeheartedly know they will appreciate it. xx
