This is a significant time of growth with multiple incredible projects underway - we are now searching for a Technical Designer to join their team based in Sydney!
The Role |
This role is all about handling the nitty-gritty of technical design for the collections, making sure every piece fits perfectly and meets quality standards. The role covers everything from managing tech packs, sizing, and garment specs to working with design, production, and factory teams to solve fit and construction issues on samples before full production. It requires strong skills in pattern making, grading, fabric testing, and quality control, alongside clear communication with multiple teams and vendors.
Key areas of responsibilities will include -
Manage and oversee all technical design aspects (measurements, quality, construction, and fit) to support the Head Designer.
Oversee technical design for every collection, including creating Tech Packs and developing fit comment documents (fit, fabric, construction, stitch, trims).
Work closely with Design & Production to transition concepts to final samples.
Measure garments accurately, identify fit issues, and execute fit comments efficiently to maintain production schedule.
Participate in fit sessions, provide recommendations, log critiques, and communicate comments/follow-ups to offshore factories.
Approve and provide grading guidelines to vendors/factories after fit approval.
Review and approve samples (SMS and production) based on fit, measurement, pattern shaping, hanger appeal, and functionality.
Create Garment spec sheets and apply grading rules.
Solve construction problems during the sample stage.
Conduct QC of PP samples and Bulk TOP samples.
Liaise daily with suppliers regarding re-fits, fabrics, finishes, and grading.
Constant communication with Design Lead, Product Development Manager, and Production Coordinator to execute sample development on-track with critical paths.
The Skillset |
5+ years minimum womenswear industry experience.
Strong knowledge of all aspects of Technical Design, including Tech Pack, grading, and fit comments.
Experience working across a variety of Womenswear categories is essential.
Tertiary education in Design, Pattern making & Grading is essential.
Experience in Tech packing, Garment spec, Pattern making, & Grading is essential.
In-depth knowledge and experience in fabric testing, textile properties, and quality assurance.
