The Role |

The Head of Retail for ANZ is responsible for leading a multi-year retail growth strategy across New Zealand and Australia, with a strong focus on accelerating performance in the Australian market. This executive role owns the full retail P&L, driving profitability through strategic store portfolio management, pricing, labour models, and omni-channel integration.

You will translate strategy into actionable plans, oversee commercial performance, and optimise conversion, margin, and cost efficiencies. The role also leads the customer experience agenda in-store, ensuring alignment to brand standards and service excellence.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading financial performance, budgets, and commercial levers across both markets.

  • Building and executing a market-specific growth plan for Australia.

  • Overseeing store operations, retail strategy, and omni-channel service models.

  • Driving improvements in customer experience, NPS, and in-store execution.

  • Leading network expansion, lease negotiations, and store format innovation.

  • Building high-performing teams and embedding a customer-first culture.

  • Partnering cross-functionally with E-commerce, Marketing, Property, and Supply Chain.

This is a pivotal role for a strategic, commercially savvy retail leader who thrives in a fast-paced, customer-centric environment.

The Skillset |

  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Retail, or a related discipline.

  • Proven senior leadership in multi-site retail operations across New Zealand and Australia.

  • Strong commercial acumen with full P&L ownership and a track record of driving sales, margin, and EBITDA growth.

  • Strategic thinker with a deep understanding of retail expansion, network optimisation, and omni-channel retailing.

  • Effective stakeholder manager with the ability to influence at executive and board level.

  • Analytical and data-driven, with experience building reporting tools and performance dashboards.

  • Strong leadership presence, focused on culture, coaching, and capability development.

  • Change agent skilled in embedding systems and scaling high-performance behaviours.

  • In-depth knowledge of retail compliance and Health & Safety across NZ and AU markets.
