The Role |
The Assistant Accountant is a mid-level, hands-on accounting role with end-to-end responsibility for core accounting functions, with particular emphasis on Accounts Receivable, cash flow, and financial accuracy.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Accounts Receivable - Primary Ownership
Full ownership of Accounts Receivable across wholesale, e-commerce, and marketplace channels.
Issuing invoices aligned to shipment, delivery confirmations, and commercial terms.
Maintaining and reviewing weekly AR ageing reports.
Proactively managing collections and following up overdue balances.
Partnering with Sales and Operations to resolve disputes, shortages, and chargebacks.
Monitoring credit limits and identifying risk early.
Supporting factoring / trade finance reporting where applicable.
Ensuring accurate allocation and reconciliation of all receipts.
2. Accounts Payable
Processing and reviewing supplier invoices in line with approval protocols.
Matching invoices to POs, deliveries, and production milestones.
Preparing and executing payment runs.
Managing supplier statements and resolving discrepancies.
Maintaining disciplined payment schedules aligned to cashflow priorities.
3. Banking & Reconciliations
Daily and weekly bank reconciliations.
Credit card and expense reconciliations.
Monitoring cash balances and assisting with short-term cash forecasting.
Supporting multi-currency and FX reconciliation.
4. Month-End & Reporting
Supporting and executing month-end close activities.
Preparing journals, accruals, and prepayments.
Completing balance sheet reconciliations.
Assisting with management reporting (P&L, cashflow, AR/AP summaries).
Ensuring clean, auditable financial records.
5. Systems & Controls
Working across accounting and ERP systems (e.g. Xero, NetSuite, Zedonk, Shopify integrations).
Ensuring data integrity between systems.
Identifying and implementing process improvements.
Maintaining clear financial documentation and controls.
6. Compliance & Stakeholder Support
Supporting GST/VAT reporting and reconciliations.
Assisting external accountants, auditors, and advisors.
Ensuring compliance with internal controls and financial policies.
Maintaining strict confidentiality and data integrity.
The Skillset |
Minimum 5 years' experience in an Assistant Accountant or similar role.
Fashion, retail, or wholesale industry experience is mandatory.
Proven experience managing AR end-to-end.
Strong understanding of wholesale terms, seasonal production cycles, and multi-channel sales.
Experience with accounting systems and ERP integrations.
Strong Excel and reporting capability.
